As a professional voice actor, I spend a lot of time bringing stories to life—whether it’s voicing commercials, or lending my voice to inspiring projects. When it comes to professional growth, the right business mindset books don’t just have the ability to inspire us, but they can become the launching pad to a new dream, idea, or even business growth.
Out of all the business-focused books I have read, there are five that stand out to me as being memorable, hilarious, or just downright helpful. If you’re looking to refine your mindset or enhance your business, these books are worth adding to your reading (or listening) list.
1. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
Narrating a book like The Four Agreements would be an honor because it’s full of wisdom. Based on ancient Toltec principles, this book presents four simple yet transformative agreements that you can adopt in your life:
- Be impeccable with your word.
- Don’t take anything personally.
- Don’t make assumptions.
- Always do your best.
As a voice artist, I know the power of words. This book reinforces how the way we communicate can shape our reality and make a big difference.
2. You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero
Jen Sincero is one of my all-time favorites. She’s motivating and hilarious. I completely relate to her brand of humor—she’s down to earth and funny about being that way. With her no-nonsense advice, she empowers readers in You Are a Badass to overcome self-doubt and take control of their lives. Whether you’re finding your voice (literally and figuratively) or chasing a dream, this book is like having a cheerleader in your corner.
3. You Are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero
I’ve listened to this book multiple times and can’t get enough—the goat story is (hilarious) reason enough! You Are a Badass at Making Money is the perfect companion for creatives and entrepreneurs who struggle with confidence in business and financial blocks. Sincero helps you rewrite your money story, and trust me, it’s a narrative worth reading.
4. How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
This classic How to Win Friends and Influence People isn’t just a business book—it’s an essential guide to human connection. As a voice actor, my job is to engage and influence an audience, and Carnegie’s principles apply to both professional and personal relationships. Whether you’re networking, negotiating, or simply trying to be more likable, this book is a masterclass in communication.
5. The Diary of a CEO: The 33 Laws of Business and Life by Steven Bartlett
Steven Bartlett is one of the most influential voices in modern business, and his book The Diary of a CEO distills invaluable lessons from his entrepreneurial journey. It’s packed with insights on leadership, business strategy, and self-discipline—critical components for anyone looking to succeed in a competitive industry, including the world of voiceover.
As someone who speaks for a living, I know that words have power. The books we read—or listen to—become the stories we live by. Whether you’re growing your business, leveling up your mindset, or stepping into a new version of yourself, these books will help you find your voice in business and life.
