Your Corporate Video Needs a Professional Voice

July 4, 2025 by Caryn Clark

Why Your Corporate Video Needs a Professional Voice

Corporate videos get a bad rap. Somewhere between awkward stock footage and monotone delivery, they’ve earned a reputation for being… well, forgettable.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

In fact, a well-produced corporate video can be one of the most powerful tools your company uses, to educate, persuade, inspire, or just make your audience actually listen for more than six seconds.

And here’s the secret ingredient: a professional voice.

First Impressions Matter (A Lot)

Your corporate video may be someone’s first real introduction to your brand. It might live on your homepage, your sales pitch, your trade show screen, your onboarding portal, or your boss’s favorite LinkedIn post.

So it has to:

  • Sound professional

  • Feel trustworthy

  • Match your brand tone

  • …and not put anyone to sleep

A pro voice actor can help with all of that, and make the content feel as polished as the visuals.

A Professional Voice = Less Work for You

Here’s what happens when you hire a seasoned voiceover pro:

  1. You send the script.

  2. You describe the tone.

  3. You get clean, broadcast-ready audio—fast.

  4. You look like a hero.

Need timing to match visuals? Want multiple reads? I’ve got you. I work in a professional studio with lightning-fast turnaround and flexible delivery formats. No stress, no mic issues, no “can you hear me now?”

More Than Just Reading Words

Your message isn’t just information. It’s an experience.

A good voiceover adds emotion, pacing, and intention that brings your video to life. It can turn a mission statement into a movement, or a training module into a lightbulb moment.

And in the sea of “meh,” your corporate video becomes memorable.

Final Thought: Your Video Has One Job. Make It Count.

A corporate video should reflect your brand’s best self. Professional visuals? Check. Strong message? Check. A voice that holds attention and leaves a lasting impression?

That’s where I come in.

Let’s make your next corporate video sound as strong as it looks. Click here to connect with me, and let’s bring your brand to life.

What Is a Relatable Read in Voiceover, and Why It’s Everywhere Right Now

June 25, 2025 by Caryn Clark

What Is a Relatable Read in Voiceover, and Why It’s Everywhere Right Now

You’ve heard it a thousand times in casting specs:

“We’re looking for a relatable read. Natural, conversational, not ‘announcer-y.’”

And if you’ve ever thought, Wait, isn’t that what everyone wants now? – you’re exactly right. The relatable voiceover read is everywhere. Commercials. Explainers. eLearning. Tech. Healthcare. Even political ads are asking for it (well, the cooler ones).

So what is a relatable read, and why is everyone obsessed with it?

🎧 It’s Like This:

Imagine your best friend just found a great product or had a life-changing experience, and is now telling you about it over coffee.

That’s a relatable read.

It’s not an announcer.
It’s not robotic.
It’s not perfect, either, and that’s the point.

🎯 Why Clients Love It

Because people are tired of being sold to. They don’t want a voice shouting “BUY NOW.” They want to feel something. They want connection.

A relatable read says:

  • “I get you.”

  • “I’ve been there.”

  • “Here’s what helped me.”

In other words: trust. And that trust drives engagement, learning, and yes, sales.

👩‍🎤 How I Deliver It (Without Sounding Boring)

There’s a fine line between “relatable” and “flat.” The trick? Control.

As a voice actor, I bring:

  • Natural warmth

  • Real-world pacing (yes to pauses, no to radio-speed reads)

  • Subtle emphasis where it matters

  • And a little spark of me, so the brand still shines

Clients often tell me it sounds like I’m actually talking to them, because I am. In my head, at least. (Hi. You look great, by the way.)

🛠️ When to Use a Relatable Read

This style works beautifully for:

  • Explainer videos

  • Children’s media
  • Brand storytelling

  • Social media ads

  • Podcasts

  • eLearning modules

  • Commercials
  • Any spot where connection matters more than hype

💬 Final Thought

A relatable voiceover read isn’t just a trend. It’s a reflection of what audiences want: authenticity, connection, and a human voice behind the brand.

And lucky for you… I’ve got that covered.

Voiceover Isn’t an “Easy Gig” – A Real Monday Morning Call (True Story)

April 18, 2025 by Caryn Clark

Tell me, how’d your Monday begin? Mine kicked off with a phone call that reminded me, once again, so many people believe voiceover is easy.  It’s not. Voiceover is not an easy gig.

voiceover isn’t an easy gig
Voiceover is not a get rich quick job.

📞 <Ring ring>

“Hello, this is Caryn!”

“Hi Caryn, my name is Steve…”

From the start, Steve’s tone was friendly and curious. He told me he manages a country club in SWFL and had crossed paths with a few voice actors. When he asked if I was a voice actor, I answered hesitantly: “Yesssss.”

His next question? “So… how easy is it to get into voiceover?” and kept talking.

I paused, exhaled, and then responded with conviction, “I’m gonna stop you right there. It’s not easy to get into. You hustle. Every. Single. Day.”

I’ve had countless conversations like this. Actually, two just this week alone. Well-meaning folks looking for a part-time side hustle, having heard that voiceover is a fun, low-effort gig. But here’s the reality: voiceover is a full-time commitment. It demands resilience, daily dedication, and thick skin.

To his credit, Steve was honest. “Oh, no, not at all,” he said when I asked if voice acting was his dream. “I just heard it was easy to get into.”

That moment hit me. Because I’ve heard it all before – people looking for quick wins, casual money, or fame through a microphone. And while some might sell you the fantasy, I won’t. I’ll give you the facts.

What It Really Takes to Succeed in Voiceover

Steve thought voice actors made $100–$150 per local commercial. So, I gently corrected him, explaining how market size, network affiliation, and usage rights influence rates. You can’t just hop into a booth and cash checks. You invest in:

  • A professional studio setup

  • Ongoing coaching and performance training

  • Voiceover marketing tools

  • Acting classes and business knowledge

I didn’t sugarcoat it. I walked him through the hustle – every single day – whether you’re just starting or working with national brands. This industry doesn’t cater to dabblers. It uplifts dreamers with drive.

From Side Chats to Real Insight: The Human Side of the Hustle

We talked for nearly 20 minutes about schools, neighborhoods, family, and more. I wasn’t just answering questions. I was listening, guiding, and sharing a glimpse into a world that many misinterpret.

And here’s the funny twist: I made a new friend.

I didn’t crush his curiosity. Instead, I redirected it with honesty. I reminded him that chasing a dream is beautiful. But you have to want it. Because if you don’t? This career will chew you up.

Voiceover Was My Dream, and I Built It From Zero.

Look, voiceover is not easy. I started with no experience. Just a dream and determination. One of the women Steve mentioned – the one who voiced the Oscars – became my mentor. That’s the full circle. Southwest Florida has been full of top level voice talent, and I’ve learned from legends.

But I did the work.

Some years, voiceover has brought me six figures. Other years? It’s rocky. Feast or famine is real. But I never give up. Why? Because this is my dream.

Why I’m the “Get Off My Lawn” Lady in VO

People like Steve are everywhere, hearing whispers about an “easy gig,” encouraged by online ads selling overnight success. And I get it. Those whispers are tempting.

But here’s my promise: I’ll always tell you the truth.

If you’re not ready to commit fully, then no, you probably won’t make it. If it’s your dream? Then absolutely, I’ll cheer you on. But you must show up. Every. Single. Day.

The Unexpected SEO Win

You know how Steve found me? He Googled “voiceover” and my name popped up. That’s the power of staying consistent, showing up in the digital space, and building a credible brand. That’s years of work paying off.

Final Thought: Stop Selling the Easy Gig Illusion

Again, let’s stop telling people that voiceover is a walk in the park. It’s not. But it is one of the most rewarding, creative, empowering careers out there, if you love it.

So, you want in? Beautiful. Start now. Train. Practice. Show up. But don’t expect shortcuts. And don’t listen to those who try to sell you dreams without the grind. If you’d like to chat, I do offer consultations about how to get in to voiceover. I’m not going to sugarcoat anything, so be ready for honesty. Click here to schedule a session with me. 🙂

8 Essential Voiceover Tips for Beginners – Expert Advice

April 1, 2025 by Caryn Clark

Starting a career in voiceover (VO) can be an exciting yet challenging journey. With over 20 years in the industry, both as a voice actor and a consultant, I’ve seen firsthand what it takes to succeed. If you’re considering getting into voice acting, these essential tips will guide you in the right direction. Read on for essential voiceover tips for beginners.

No Two Voiceover Journeys Are the Same

Everyone’s path in voiceover is unique. Comparing your progress to someone else’s is counterproductive. Focus on your growth and embrace the learning process.

Embrace a Learning Mindset

Voiceover is an evolving industry, and being open to learning is crucial. Absorb knowledge like a sponge, listen to industry experts, and always be willing to improve your skills.

It’s Not Just About Your Voice

Having a great voice is helpful, but voiceover is voice ACTING. Your ability to bring scripts to life, convey emotions, and connect with the audience is what truly matters.

Constructive Criticism Is Your Best Friend

If a coach tells you that you can “become a VO in just a few months” without effort, they’re misleading you. A great coach will provide honest, constructive feedback to help you grow.

Follow Directions Like a Pro

In the world of VO, following directions to a tee is a must. Whether it’s a recording session or audition instructions, your ability to adhere to details can make or break opportunities.

Be Prepared and Professional

Whether it’s a free consultation or a paid coaching session, be prepared. Take notes, ask insightful questions, and respect your mentor’s time.

Do the Homework

When a coach suggests a website, blog, or book, take the time to explore it. Research and self-education are invaluable tools in becoming a successful VO artist.

Express Gratitude

A simple thank-you message can go a long way. Whether it’s a free consult or career advice, showing appreciation helps build strong professional relationships.

Final Thoughts

Most aspiring VO artists follow these principles naturally, but some need a little guidance like these voiceover tips. Remember, you don’t know what you don’t know. Seeking experienced and honest coaches can make all the difference in your journey. If you’re looking for professional guidance, I’m here to help! Contact me here!

We All Get Nervous

September 9, 2024 by Caryn Clark

Do you get the jitters when you’re working on a big voiceover performance?

I do. And I’ve been doing voiceover for nearly 20 years.

I think we all experience some level of nerves, right? Maybe it’s not “nerves” but more about being conscientious about the task at hand.

Actually, I get a little bit of this feeling with any voiceover performance, no matter the size. It could be a quick read for a :15 commercial, or a lengthy session for a children’s media project. Because I always want to do my best, I go through my mental checklist of all the factors that ensure a great recording—mic placement, making sure the a/c is off, understanding the copy and direction, and oh yeah, ensuring that ProTools is actually recording! I’m not sitting there biting my nails, but I am certainly focused and doing my absolute best.

The way I see it, my job is to make the voiceover performance as easy on the client as possible. I never want to be the problem. Ever.

Recently, I had two 2-hour sessions for a children’s media company, working on a project for one of the most well-known franchises in the world. The sessions required a lot of energy and focus with a lot of copy to get through. So, of course, I wanted to make sure everything sounded just right, minimizing mistakes, and ensuring the directors were happy with the result.

That’s a lot of pressure, y’all!

Is it nerves? Or is it conscientiousness?

What do you call it? I’d love to know! Email me at caryn@carynclark.com and let’s chat!

PS: The client was very happy, and I received nothing but positive feedback about the session!

A Touchy Subject – Political Voiceover

September 5, 2024 by Caryn Clark

The Power of Political Voiceover

A political voiceover can be a touchy subject. However, this week, I had the pleasure of attending a gathering to watch the results of the local Florida Primary come in and to celebrate the winners of a hard-fought primary campaign. It was a wonderful experience, and it reminded me of how fortunate we are to live in a country where we can freely exercise our right to vote for the platforms and candidates we believe in.

The Privilege of Voting

No matter what your political preferences are, this is one of the great privileges of living in a democracy. The ability to cast our vote, express our voice, and participate in shaping the direction of our country is something we should all cherish.

My Journey into Political Voiceover

Looking back, I never imagined I’d find myself in the world of political voiceover work. Until just a few short years ago, I didn’t think I had the “right” sound to do voiceovers for political campaigns. I always assumed my voice wasn’t the right fit for such projects, so I never even tried. It wasn’t until I received a political audition that I thought, “Why not?” and decided to give it a shot.

A Surprising Discovery

To my surprise, I was chosen to voice that first political campaign, and then another, and then another. Before I knew it, political voiceover work became one of the most meaningful and fulfilling aspects of my career. The ads and campaigns I work on are often full of energy and personality, which, as it turns out, is something I do quite well. I find a great deal of purpose in voicing these messages, knowing that they have an impact on public discourse and democracy.

The Lesson Learned

The moral of this story is simple: always try new things! You never know where it might lead you. Sometimes, stepping out of your comfort zone can open doors you never expected.
